Truth

Those who sow in tears
will reap with songs of joy.
He who goes out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with him.

Psalm 126: 5 - 6

  1. Here is a prayer written by a friend of mine from church. He designed the library/administration building at the Union Ave campus.

    JOY THAT OVERTAKES SORROW

Karl Barth, in his marvelous little book on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart said that Mozart’s music had a way, “In which joy overtakes sorrow without extinguishing it.”

Life must go on and we must let joy subdue the sorrows that are a natural part of life.

If there was no striving for a higher level of joy there would be no sorrow, or in reverse, if there was no sorrow there would be no reason to strive for joy.

Disappointment and sorrow are a natural and appropriate part of life but joy must prevail.

  2. Here is another one.

    AWARENESS

When you feel that God is distant
And not involved in your life –
    Rejoice!
    Comfort is on its way.

    The awareness of need
Is the first step to reconciliation.

    God,
    The hound of heaven,
    Is constantly
    Pursuing you,
    Wooing you,
    Calling you,
    Into fellowship
    And joy.

    Praise the Lord.

  3. I love that verse! It is hard to go out prepared to sow in seasons of sadness. Often we feel we have nothing to throw out but if we can act in faith znc sow what we have been given, we will reap a harvest of songs of joy and sheaves.

  4. Thanks for sharing those poems, Bill. I really liked them, and it sounds like your friend is speaking from his own journey through difficult times. Their is such comfort in hearing those who testify of God's loving presence in the midst of their times of trouble and despair.

Lisa, as always, your comments encourage me to press on.
